Mission

The Mission Indian baskets mostly originated from the tribes gathered around the San Clemente area. Mission Indians often incorporated pictorials, eagles, snakes, and other animals into their designs.

The Mission Indians are actually groups of different tribes who were mixed together during the early mission days. At the time, missionaries were forcibly relocating locals to the missions as workers and residents. It was at these missions that the tribes would mix together and later be known as Mission Indians.
